Victor Moritz Goldschmidt (Zurich, Switzerland, January 27, 1888 – March 20, 1947, Vest-Aker, near Oslo) was a chemist and geophysicist, one of the founders of geochemistry and crystal chemistry. He developed a geochemical classification of elements and proposed the law of isomorphism, which bears his name. He put forward one of the first theories regarding the composition and structure of the Earth's interior, predictions that were largely confirmed. He was also one of the first to calculate the composition of the upper continental crust. His major work, Geochemistry, was published posthumously in England (1954). He was awarded the Elliott Cresson Medal (1903), the Wollaston Medal (1944), and the Fridtjof Nansen Prize (1912). Foreign Member of the Royal Society.
