William E. Caswell

Name: William E. Caswell
Date: June 22, 1947

William Edward Caswell (Boston, USA, June 22, 1947 – September 11, 2001, Arlington, USA) was an American physicist who early (mid-1970s) applied the power of computers to synthesize the ideas of gauge symmetry and the renormalization group. His methods are still used in the interpretation of many experiments in high-energy physics. His work led to the development of methods for multiloop calculations of quantum chromodynamics. He made many other valuable and influential contributions that have been used as tools for calculations in particle physics. He led a group of 100 scientists working on a major classified project in the field of defense technology (1985).
