Sergey Yakovlevich Kilin (Belarusian: Сярргей Якаўлевіч Кілін; Gomel, USSR, May 18, 1952) is a Belarusian physicist, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (2014), Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (1992), and Professor (2006). He is also an Honored Scientist of the Republic of Belarus (2019). His research focuses on quantum optics and quantum information science. He developed a theory of quantum fluctuations in nonlinear optical interactions and, based on this theory, predicted a number of effects observed during the emission of photons by single atoms and molecules in various environments. He developed new methods and systems for quantum information technologies (quantum computers and quantum cryptography). He was one of the first in the world to emit single photons. With his participation, the Quantum Information Systems academic program was launched in Belarus. He is an Honored Scientist of the Republic of Belarus (2019).
