Brian Randolph Greene (born February 9, 1963, New York, USA) is a theoretical physicist, science communicator, and one of the most renowned string theorists, author of the bestseller "The Elegant Universe." He studied mirror symmetry, which relates two different Calabi–Yau spaces. Together with David Morrison and Paul Aspinwall, he proved (1993) that flop transitions (a topological procedure) with space tears are part of string theory. He developed the idea of an electron black hole. He currently studies string cosmology, in particular the "fingerprints" of trans-Planckian physics in the cosmic microwave background, as well as brane cosmology. He was awarded the Andrew Gemant Prize (2003) and the Richtmyer Memorial Prize (2012).
